Food donation to assist hunger relief campaign

27/06/2008 10:14:00 AM
BY donating a can of food you can receive a free weekly rental at Inverell Network Video for the month of July.

In partnership with Foodbank, Australia’s largest hunger relief charity, the video store is offering a Cans4Films deal to help those in need.

Inverell Network Video owner Paul Newman said he was pleased to be able to support the cause.

“All we are asking our customers to do is bring in a can of food and they will be given a free weekly rental,” Mr Newman said.

“Those who hand in two cans will gain three weekly rentals.

“At the end of July, we will then be handing over the cans of food to Foodbank to help people who are suffering.”

Mr Newman said Foodbank has 1700 welfare agency members, feeding 38,000 people a day and works in association with the Salvation Army.

“The goal is for all Network Video stores in Australia to raise 350,000 cans through the Cans4Films Festival,” Mr Newman said.

“That’s 100 tonnes of food which will go directly to feed those who are hungry.

“It is unbelievable to know that more than two million people in Australia are suffering of hunger with a million of those being children.”

The Cans4Films campaign starts on Tuesday and finishes on July 31.
