SPRING is almost here and that means it is show time in the Wheatbelt.
Agricultural societies throughout the region have been busy since last year, preparing for their annual shows which between them cover most weekends in September and October.
This weekend, the Yilgarn Agricultural Society is the first to present their show at Southern Cross on Saturday.
Mukinbudin then has its Mukinbudin Spring Festival from September 3 to 6 with a garden competition, the Muka mile, an art exhibition, Muka Idol and a market day.
Bruce Rock presents its show on September 6 with a mobile laser skirmish, helicopter rides, beer tasting, fireworks, show bags and horse events.
It will include the WA Young Farmer of the Year competition heats and evening entertainment by James Wilson.
The Koorda show is also on September 6.
September 13 is the day Corrigin will host its show with plenty for all the family to do.
The Kellerberrin and Districts Agricultural Society has its turn on September 20.
Westonia has Wessy Fessy which will feature a divine tour strolling through the unique Woodlands of Westonia, tasting fine WA wines and beers with a difference.
Be entertained in the evening by James the Magician and The Best of British Legends tribute bands.
The official opening of the Kulin Bush Races gets underway on October 3 with an art and craft show, live entertainment, licensed bar, meal and entertainment at the track.
Then on the Saturday there will be a dawn service camp draft, gymkhana, art and craft show, horse races, fine wine, country cuisine, kid’s activity tent, old McDonald farm, bouncy castle, sheep, dog and foot races, fireworks and two up.
On Sunday a great Aussie revival breakfast and an art and craft show from 9am to 11am.
Nungarin has a full weekend of entertainment with the
Harvest Festival beginning with the Nungarin Primary School 95th reunion on the October 4.
The Mangowine Concert will be on Saturday evening featuring 100 percent ABBA, 100 percent Madonna, Dusty
Springfield, The Blues Brothers and the VIP Dancers.
The Nungarin Markets will be on Sunday and the Nungarin Bowling Club reunion will get under way at 3pm with social bowls.
On October 4, Meckering residents will remember the devastating earthquake which almost destroyed the town in 1966 and will have displays and guest speakers as well as a guide bus tour on the day.
The York community will celebrate their centenary on October 11 with a fun filled day starting at 12.30pm with a BYO picnic lunch.
In the evening a roast lamb dinner is available and you can listen to the band The Young Once.
Wyalkatchem conducts its Heritage and Rose festival on October 18 and 19 with something for everyone including an art show, roses, raffle, vintage machinery, boot scooting, heritage displays, Devonshire teas, bush tucker, heritage walk, nature trails, antique fair and the museum will be open.
There will be cheese and wine tasting Friday from 6pm, a youth dance on Saturday between 2pm and 4pm and a dinner dance on Saturday at 7pm.
Sunday breakfast will be from 8.30am with yarns, myths and legends.
Tammin begins its art prize in the Western Power photography competition on October 25 at the Tammin Town Hall from 10am to 10pm.
Cheese platters and entertainment will be included and a bar service will be available.
Finally from October 28 through to November 2, the Back to the Bush Veteran’s Reunion will get underway in Bruce Rock.
District tours will be available as well as golf, bingo and a school children’s concert.
