NAREMBEEN Shire Councillor Halley Cowan has been recognised for almost three decades of service to the community with life membership to the West Australian Local Government Association.
Cr Cowan was among 47 leaders from Local Governments in WA honoured at last weekend’s Local Government Convention.
WALGA president Cr Bill Mitchell said annual Local Government honours recognised individuals who have made a significant commitment to serving the community.
“Communities across Western Australia benefit every day from the efforts of these individuals and it is appropriate that WALGA honours their contribution,” Cr Mitchell said.
Cr Cowan, who is also a WALGA State Councillor, was awarded life membership in recognition of 27 years of service, including his role in the development of a model health service for the Eastern Wheatbelt Health
District.
Other honours awarded to Wheatbelt councillors included the Distinguished Service Certificate of Appreciation to Victor Orchard from Koorda, John Della Bosca from Westonia and Ross Crute from Wyalkatchem.
Long and Loyal Service awards were presented to Ernest Ventris from Mukinbudin, Harry Gayfer from Corrigin, Mark Crees from Merredin, Christopher Geraghty from Mukinbudin, Paul Jones from Mukinbudin and Martin Morris from Merredin.
