BRENDON Grylls would turn down the Deputy Premier position if he was elected and the Liberals and Nationals had the numbers to govern as a coalition.
The current National Party leader, Mr Grylls is one of three men to put their hands up for the Central Wheatbelt seat in next month’s State election.
Bruce Rock Shire President Stephen Strange will represent the Liberal Party and the Australian Labor Party has nominated Northam resident Gerry Sturman for the seat.
Other nominations are not known at this stage but nominations close on Friday.
Mr Grylls has ruled out any coalition with the Liberal Party.
Mr Grylls said last week he would pass up a position in a Liberal Cabinet if the party won the upcoming State election.
He said he was not interested in joining forces with city-centric politicians and that the aim of the Nationals was to hold the balance of power.
“The Nationals will not enter into a party room dominated by Perth politicians, focused on Perth projects,” he said.
“I don’t seek coalition, I am not in discussions, I am not in negotiations.”
Mr Grylls did say he would speak with Colin Barnett this week seeking support for his Royalties for the Regions policy and, if supported, the Nationals would offer their preferences to the Liberals.
Mr Grylls said electoral redistribution had fundamentally changed the political landscape in Western Australia, leaving 48 seats in the narrow coastal strip from Mindarie to Margaret River and just 11 for the rest of WA.
