A PROJECT to achieve community development and individual capacity building through photography is being presented to school students in the Wheatbelt.
The Voices of the Wheatbelt project offers the opportunity for better understanding between Aboriginal and non-Aboriginal people through the input of elders, facilitators and excursions.
With the support of photographic facilitators, students learnt about the technical and artistic aspects of digital photography, including elements of design, composition and ways to use light.
Students were encouraged to understand that capturing a great photo was not necessarily about creating photographs perfection, but about recognizable personality that the viewer can see and feel.
Towns selected for the program were Tammin, Kellerberrin, Quairading and Merredin.
Workshops were offered to students during the first part of the year and adults will be able to attend in the second part.
Organisers said as the photos give voice to the people, places and lifestyles of the Wheatbelt, an exhibition in Perth is planned to enhance connections
between the city and the Wheatbelt.
“Voices of the Wheatbelt” was facilitated by Community Arts Network WA and was funded by the Department of Families, Housing, Community Services and Indigenous Affairs.
