The Kellerberrin Speedway conducted its Christmas in July race weekend with a large number of street stocks, formula 500s, production sedans and juniors in attendance.
The wind was bitterly cold but the rain stayed away long enough for spectators to enjoy a full afternoon of racing.
Only one late model sedan and one sprintcar were at the track but delighted fans when each took turns to pit their machines against the clock in their nominated heats.
Darren Currell from Merredin in the late model sedan was quick around the track but the slippery surface did not suit the high powered machine, on occasions almost slipping off the track.
Formula 500s featured a large field of machines and put on an excellent display of close wheel to wheel racing.
One driver, Bill Richards came too close to a competitor’s wheel and ended up rolling his machine several times.
Fortunately he was uninjured and managed to get out of the car before rescue teams arrived on the scene.
The juniors in divisions one and two demonstrated to the crowd that speedway will be alive and well for years to come as they battled each other for line honours all day.
Some of the junior drivers show a great deal of skill as they power their small but quick cars around the track.
One of the final events of the day which attracted a great deal of attention from the crown was the ladies and mechanics race.
Some of the drivers looked like they had been driving for years and managed to avoid contact with the rest of the field for a good clean race.
The next meet at Kellerberrin will be August 16 which will feature the street stocks open championships plus another ladies and mechanics race.
