THE Merredin District Lawn Tennis Club last week donated funds raised from its open day to the Merredin St John Ambulance Association.
Club president Stephen Crook said the funds were raised during a charity day earlier this year.
“About 70 people from outlaying clubs visited our club for the open day,” he said.
“The club has raised money for charities such as the ambulance, the Royal Flying Doctors Service and the Hospital Auxiliary, for about 10 years.”
The $1,000 cheque was presented to sub centre chairperson Mike Dorizzi who said St John greatly appreciated the support shown to the organisation by sporting clubs.
He said without community support the sub centre would not be able to operate with the modern and up-to-date equipment it has.
Mr Crook said the club would continue to play on the lawn surface this season before changing to a new synthetic surface in conjunction with the hockey club next year.
He said investigations into a common synthetic surface, which would be attached to the Merredin Regional Community and Leisure Centre, were being carried out.
